Omar Tamez
Omar Tamez, born in 1974, is a composer and guitarist who specializes in the genre of jazz. He began his music studies with Nicandro Tamez, but also has studied with artists such as André Richard, Daniel Catán, Manuel de Elías, Helmut Lachenmann, Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen through a variety of workshops, seminars and masterclasses. He studied at the Universidad Regiomontana, Monterrey, Nuevo Leon in Mexico, where he received his Master’s degree in both composition and philosophy. He later additionally attended the NIMES (New Interfaces for Musical Expression) and Résonances Music Technology Convention at the IRCAM in Paris, France.
After completing his education, he has become an educator himself. He has taught for over 20 years both in Monterrey and traveling internationally to make guest appearances. He also founded his organization, Non-Jazz. In addition to teaching, he has toured as a performer, having played and recorded with a long list of internationally renowned jazz musicians.
